CKInsto Test Equipment for UL 486 Standard The UL 486 standard covers the requirements for Wire Connectors and Soldering Lugs (UL 486A-486B) and Equipment Wiring Terminals (UL 486E). CK Insto's equipment primarily addresses the crucial mechanical and physical integrity tests required by this standard. 1. Securness Test Apparatus (UL 486A-B Mechanical Strength Test) This is the most direct piece of equipment for testing the mechanical reliability of the wire-to-connector joint. Primary Function: To evaluate the secureness, or pull-out force resistance, of the electrical wire connection in lugs, terminals, splices, and wiring devices (e.g., circuit breakers, disconnect switches). Test Principle: A wire of the specified size is correctly terminated in the connector (terminal, lug, MCB, RCCB, etc.). The connector is secured in a rigid clamp on the test apparatus. A predetermined tensile force (pull-out load), as specified by the UL 486 standard for that wire size, is gradually applied to the wire. The equipment checks whether the wire is retained securely in the terminal for a specified duration without separating or slipping more than a specified amount.
