A thickness planer (also known in the UK and Australia as a thicknesser or in North America as a planer) is a woodworking machine to trim boards to a consistent thickness throughout their length. This machine transcribes the desired thickness using the downside as a reference / index.The reciprocating motion of the ram is obtained by a quick return motion mechanism. As the ram reciprocates, the tool cuts the material during its forward stroke. In return stroke, there is no cutting action and this stroke is called the idle stroke.A wood planer helps you even out a piece of wood into a board with the exact same thickness everywhere.
