Wood Thickness Planers

The planer (also called a surfacer) is a single purpose machine that planes wood to uniform thickness. It mills the surfaces of lumber, creating faces or planes that are parallel. The tool is invaluable for customising standard stock thickness and making material flat.Planing is a manufacturing process of material removal in which the workpiece reciprocates against a stationary cutting tool producing a plane or sculpted surface. Planing is analogous to shaping. The main difference between these two processes is that in shaping the tool reciprocates across the stationary workpiece. A planer is a type of metalworking machine tool that uses linear relative motion between the workpiece and a single-point cutting tool to cut the work piece. A planer is similar to a shaper, but larger, and with workpiece moving, whereas in a shaper the cutting tool moves.
