Zero Liquid Discharge System

Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) refers to: · ZLD – meaning Zero Discharge of wastewater from Industries. · A ZLD system involves a range of advanced wastewater treatment technologies to recycle, recovery and re-use of the ‘treated' wastewater and thereby ensure there is no discharge of wastewater to the environment. · Installation of facilities and system which will enable industrial effluent for absolute recycling of permeate and converting solute (dissolved organic and in-organic compounds/salts) into residue in the solid form by adopting method of concentration and thermal evaporation. ZLD will be recognized and certified based on two broad parameters: o Water consumption versus waste water re-used or recycled (permeate). o Corresponding solids recovered (percent total dissolved /suspended solids in effluents). A typical ZLD system comprises of the following components: ü 1) Pre-treatment ( Physico-chemical & Biological) 2) Reverse Osmosis (Membrane Processes) 3) Evaporator & Crystallizer (Thermal Process)
