Sand filtration is a popular and effective method for removing suspended particles from water. The filtering medium is made up of many layers of sand of various sizes and specific gravity. Sand filters are available in a variety of sizes and materials, and can be operated manually or mechanically.Sand filters are widely used in water purification and remove suspended matter by a completely different mechanism. Instead of the water passing through small orifices through which particles cannot pass, it runs through a bed of filter medium, typically 0.75 mm sand 750 mm deep.
