Design and ConstructionThe WPC series operates through a simple yet robust design involving a worm (screw-like shaft) and a worm wheel (gear) enclosed in a durable housing. Worm Shaft: This is the driving component, typically made of hardened high-quality steel (such as 45# or 20CrMnTi steel) after heat treatment to enhance strength and wear resistance. Worm Wheel: The driven gear is commonly made of a softer material like tin bronze or phosphor bronze. This material pairing reduces friction and wear, with the bronze acting as a sacrificial part to protect the harder worm shaft. Housing: The casing is generally made of robust cast iron, which provides excellent rigidity, strength, and aids in heat dissipation during continuous operation. Internal Components: The assembly includes high-quality bearings to support radial and axial loads, and oil seals to prevent lubricant leakage and contamination. Key Features High Reduction Ratios: A single-stage WPC gearbox can achieve a large speed reduction, typically ranging from 10:1 to 60:1, with double-stage units offering much higher ratios, up to 900:1 or more. Self-Locking Mechanism: Due to the sliding contact and gear geometry, in most configurations the worm can drive the wheel but the wheel cannot drive the worm backward. This is a crucial safety feature, eliminating the need for external braking systems in lifting applications.
