Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) is an industry term that refers to a waste water management system where the effluent discharged from an industrial unit does not contain any liquid. ZLD is also commonly referred to as "Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)", as well as "Zero Liquid Out (ZLO)", to indicate that no liquid effluent should be present. In addition, ZLD is often used interchangeably with "Near Zero Liquid Discharge (NZLD)." However, the term NZLD has more stringent requirements than that of ZLD. The objective of this project is to design and develop a ZLD system for the Chemical Plant. This system has several objectives including: eliminate a liquid waste water discharge, generate solids for landfill disposal or reuse, recycle a high-quality water that can be beneficially reused, minimize capital investment and system operating cost while not significantly impacting the manpower required for operation. The system must be designed with operational flexibility to meet the facility needs and be safe.
